Smoking Prevalence in Korea
The data on smoking prevalence is available from the 1980¡¯s. At that time, the smoking rate among adult men was 80%, one of the highest in the world. After a lot of efforts by KASH and other parties, it has dramatically decreased to 45% by 2007. Smoking rate among women was surveyed to be 6.3% in 2010 but that figure more than doubles to 13.9% when a urinary sample was took from the same population(figure 1). Smoking rate among female is underestimated.

According to a recent study, smoking was more prevalent among younger population. The age group of 30 to 39 year-olds had the highest smoking rate and the group of people over 70 year-olds had the lowest (figure 2).
